Aliens and Taxes

I almost never listen to podcasts.
But when I came back from basketball on Tuesday, my wife was listening to one that I got interested in.
It was a Christian archeologist very seriously talking about giants, demons, aliens, and secret military labs.
I ended the podcast feeling very disturbed.
While I am unsure of the existence of these things (except for demons, those are real!) to even seriously consider the possibility of these things is unsettling to say the least.
The idea of super-powerful, super-intelligent forces carrying out secret operations with motives that we don't understand while perpetuating widespread deception can definitely seem like a downer on your Wednesday morning drive to work.
But let's say it's all true,
Every conspiracy, corruption, atrocity, and evil plot.
Let's say our world is set upon by aliens, demons, and twisted super-technologies.
Well, in that case, we have to ask ourselves the exact same questions that are at the foundation of every other part of life.
Is God in charge?
Is God trustworthy?
Is God good?
Does God love me?
Does God have a plan for me and the world?
Whether we are anxious about taxes or aliens, it's always the same questions that matter most.
Whether it's government corruption or stubbing our toes, the most important thing to know is God's identity and your identity.
Is God the almighty one, creator of all things and in whom all things exist, whose attentiveness does not miss a single hair, flower, or grain of sand, and whose dominion is absolute?
Is God the loving one who continually calls His little creatures to Himself, the One who forsakes the bliss of Heaven to be mocked, beaten, and killed for the chance of winning back the love of creatures who have cursed and hated Him?
If the Almighty God loves me and calls me His beloved son, then what have I to fear?
Bring on the aliens, bring on the taxes, bring on the government corruption, bring on the stubbed toes!
I am a beloved son of the Most High Lord!
What power of creation either physical or spiritual should I fear if I belong to the Lord God who loves me?
And as a child of God, what am I to do with myself in this crazy world?
My mission in this world remains the same in all circumstances:
He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22: 37-40)
I've been appointed the task of love.
The Lord God will bring to me the circumstances that He desires me to love Him in (and through which He desires to love me!)
And He will bring me the people He desires me to love.
I will mess up and fail and avoid and become afraid.
Yes, I have much that needs mending in me.
And my God will be merciful.
And I will begin again within His mercy.
So what have I to fear?
No sin within me or evil around me may claim me for the Lord God has already claimed me and I am His forever.
Glory to God for His goodness and for the path of salvation He has laid forth for His people!
Let's be Saints!
Isaac
